MONTGOMERY BANS DATA CENTERS, DETENTION CENTERS
Township Committee · Meeting of June 18, 2026
NJ MONTGOMERY — Montgomery Township Committee unanimously votes to ban data centers and detention facilities. Ordinance 26-1779 prohibits the uses throughout the township after environmental advocates warned of impacts on electrical demand, noise, and water consumption. Craig Gianetti, representing E Kahn Development via law firm Day Pitney LLP, spoke against adoption in a 4-0 vote.
The Committee also approved an affordable housing settlement with Fair Share Housing Center, confirming the township's compliance plan under the state's new housing framework.
