COMMITTEE ADOPTS COMPREHENSIVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING ORDINANCE

NJ MONTGOMERY — Montgomery Township Committee unanimously approves comprehensive affordable housing ordinance. All five members voted to adopt Ordinance #26-1771, establishing a 40-year deed-restriction framework for rental units and 30-year controls for ownership units, with detailed pricing and occupancy requirements aligned with New Jersey's revised Fair Housing Act. Mayor Neena Singh's panel also introduced a 3.5 percent budget-appropriation cap for 2026 after CFO Michael Pitts reported mounting cost pressures: health insurance up 18 percent, police pensions up 10.2 percent, and electricity costs rising 15 percent.
The Committee authorized payment of outstanding bills.
